I stretch it, paint it, fold it, going to the limits of its strength, fragility and transparency. It often leaves me in desperation because of its fragility.
It leaves me breathless with the feeling of happiness to see its fragile intensity.
it is summer and terribly warm and it didn't seem a good idea to heat the kiln..... but these days I had to.... so it was better to leave my atelier alone and to stay under the shady trees..
"I promised you a rose garden" (detail) selected for L'Alcora 2009 (Spain)
"...I never promised you a rose garden, along with the sunshine, there's gotta be a little rain sometimes...", says the song.. But what if I dìd promise you a Rose Garden...?? Maybe with a little love and fantasy my fragile roses will be strong enough to create all on their own a beautiful garden with all the fragrances of spring and summer ... (and of autumn and winter too..!)
'picaflores' or hummingbirds or 'colibrì'; maybe the spanish name is the nicest: it shows them going inside a flower and drinking the nectar.. these 'picaflores' are made of porcelainwith forged silver as earrings, they fly near the almost-open-flower-necklace. I made them a while ago; between cups and bowls I play and try things out with small designs like these birds (that flew in my chilean garden) or like the more abstract ribbed 'bronze' shell, that is a part of the necklace.
this picture was made with a phone camera by someone in the garden at night..... :-) I like especially working late in my atelier, at those hours when everything seems quiet...
very thin plate and bowl, porcelain, with incisions, light blue glaze they are so thin and light that they were almost blown away by the wind on the Piazza Santissima Annunziata in Firenze...
